Federal Communications Commission Reappoints ABLE Dayton Attorney to National Telecommunications Board
Ellis Jacobs, an attorney with Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc. (ABLE) in Dayton, Ohio has been reappointed to the Universal Service Administrative Company Board of Directors (USAC) by Julius Genachowski, Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission.
USAC is an independent, not-for-profit corporation created in 1997 to administer telecommunications universal service programs for the nation. Those programs ensure that telecommunications networks are affordable and available in rural areas; that schools, libraries and rural health centers can access basic and advanced services at discounted rates; and low income consumers can afford basic phone service.
Jacobs grew up in Dayton, attended Fairview High School, Ohio University, and the University of Dayton School of Law. His law practice at ABLE includes telecommunications regulation and he is nationally recognized as a pioneer in efforts to overcome the digital divide. He was initially appointed to USAC in 2009 and has been reappointed to a three year term.
