New President Elected for Legal Aid Boards of Trustees
The Boards of Trustees of Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Inc. (LAWO) and Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc. (ABLE) have named a new president for the 2011 calendar year. At their December 2010 meetings, members of the two boards elected David J. Coyle, a partner in the litigation practice group of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP, as president of both boards. Coyle replaces attorney Laurie J. Pangle who has been on the boards since 1998, serving as president for the past six years.

The Boards of Trustees of Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Inc. (LAWO) and Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc. (ABLE) have named a new president for the 2011 calendar year. At their December 2010 meetings, members of the two boards elected David J. Coyle, a partner in the litigation practice group of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP, as president of both boards. Coyle replaces attorney Laurie J. Pangle who has been on the boards since 1998, serving as president for the past six years.
"I look forward to leading the boards of these excellent law firms," says Coyle. "The work and mission of LAWO and ABLE speak to me both personally and professionally and I am pleased to be a part of their great accomplishments."
Coyle joined the LAWO and ABLE boards in 2001 as part of the consolidation of the Toledo Legal Aid Society civil program with LAWO. He is a member of the Toledo Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association, and the American Bankruptcy Institute. Coyle is admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, the United States District Courts for the Northern District of Ohio, the Southern District of Ohio, and the Eastern District of Michigan, and all courts in Ohio. He also remains a board member of the Toledo Legal Aid Society.
During her tenure as board president, Pangle was instrumental in bringing six legal aid programs together into a new 32-county service area and a unity of mission and operation.
"Laurie has worked tirelessly to establish cohesive and an energized boards and to promote the importance of the work of LAWO and ABLE," says Coyle. "One of her primary accomplishments has been the creation of the Center for Equal Justice in downtown Toledo. She was involved in every step of the Center for Equal Justice's development, from purchasing the building to visualizing how a shell could become a vibrant hub of activity to raising the funds needed to complete the dream," he adds.
Pangle will remain on the boards of trustees for ABLE and LAWO.
In addition to the president, new officers include James Murray (Sandusky) vice president, Susan Solle (Dayton) vice president, Jacqueline Gaines (Dayton) secretary, and William J. Bingle (Toledo) treasurer.
Toledo attorney Patricia Wise was named to the ABLE board and Penny Prichard (Dayton) and Pamela Sims (Lima) were named to both the LAWO and the ABLE boards.
ABLE and LAWO are the largest providers of free legal services in Ohio, covering 32-counties of western Ohio from offices located in Dayton, Defiance, Fremont, Lima, Mansfield, Sandusky, Springfield, and Toledo. The Migrant Farmworker Programs of both law firms serve all 88 Ohio counties.
