This statement can be attributed to LAWO Attorney Elizabeth Gorman:

As the custody case between Benjamin Mills and his daughter's mother, Andrea Conley, progresses toward court next week in Dayton/Montgomery County, Ohio, Mr. Mills continues to place his trust in the court to reach a fair resolution regarding the custody of his daughter.  Mr. Mills sought legal assistance in July of 2008 in order to protect his rights as a parent of his daughter. Mr. Mills did not consent to the adoption or the removal of his daughter from Dayton/Montgomery County and took immediate action to establish himself as the father, to locate his child, and have courts honor his parent-child relationship with her.

As the custody case between Benjamin Mills and his daughter's mother, Andrea Conley, progresses toward court next week in Dayton/Montgomery County, Ohio, Mr. Mills continues to place his trust in the court to reach a fair resolution regarding the custody of his daughter.  Mr. Mills sought legal assistance in June of 2008 in order to protect his rights as a parent of his daughter. Mr. Mills did not consent to the adoption or the removal of his daughter from Dayton/Montgomery County and took immediate action to establish himself as the father, to locate his child, and have courts honor his parent-child relationship with her.

Mr. Mills has expressed from the start his desire to establish a relationship with his child. It is important to him that she also develop a relationship with her sisters, her grandmother, and other members of her extended family. Once he had established in November 2008 that he was his daughter's father, he expected that there would be a speedy determination of his relationship with his daughter. During this time, Mr. Mills has had ongoing relationships with his two other children by the birth mother, who are currently living with their grandmother.

According to Dayton Attorney Cristy Oakes, legal counsel for Rena Jordan, paternal grandmother of Mr. Mills' daughter, "Ms. Jordan is a retired school teacher who was given legal custody of two of Benjamin Mills' daughters by the Montgomery County Juvenile Court in 2008.  Montgomery County Children Services was involved in the placement of the baby's two full older siblings with Ms. Jordan.  At this time, Ms. Jordan, is ready, willing and able to take custody of her granddaughter. She wants to raise her granddaughter with her two siblings in a loving, caring environment."

Both he and Ms. Jordan believe that the custody issues involving their daughter and granddaughter are private and should be resolved in the court and not in the media.
